Fascia boards run along the edge of the roof, fixed to the ends of the rafters. They carry the gutters and support the bottom edge of the roof covering. When a timber fascia rots, the gutters sag, water gets into the rafter ends and birds or pests can get into the roof space. Full replacement vs capping over old timber

There are two ways to get uPVC fascias:

Full replacement: the old timber boards come off, we check and repair the rafter ends, and then we fix new uPVC boards directly. This is the right method if the timber is rotten, or if you want the job done once.
Capping (cladding): we fix thin uPVC over the existing timber. It is cheaper, but only suitable if the timber underneath is completely sound. Capping over rot hides it, and the rot keeps spreading.
